Heroes of Might and Magic III HD Edition is a real hit for iPad, the game completely repeats the classic implementation of the turn-based strategy of the late 90s, has its full functionality and is perfectly adapted for touch control.
In the game you will find the same recognizable interface, familiar gameplay and sound accompaniment to the worn-out mouse buttons.
I could not even imagine that the developer would be able to transfer the game to the mobile platform iOS and at the same time not cut the functionality, as was the case with Civilization Revolution 2, for example.
The gameplay of the game has been familiar to strategy lovers for two decades, the same game categories of characters: druid, knight, necromancer, magician, familiar cities, buildings, military units, spells. From the first minutes the gameplay draws you into a unique game world and time ceases to exist.

Unfortunately, the game is only available on tablets from the company Apple and it is clear why: relatively small, even in the case of iPhone 6, the screen is not able to convey the impression of the game, not only the interface would suffer but also the gameplay. If you own iPad 3 generations and newer, you are very lucky, full-fledged Heroes are waiting for you anytime, anywhere.
As before, several modes are available in the game: single-player quick game with AI, local multiplayer mode (several players on one iPad, each one walks in turn), company mode. The ability to save the game is available, and autosave is also enabled after each cycle of moves. For quick play and local multiplayer, a large number of game maps are available, differing in terrain, initial capabilities and sizes: from small to XL. But what I did not find in the game on iPad was a constructor, I remember, my friends and I created the game world for ourselves, it was quite interesting, especially adding to our troops by default a myriad of combat units of the highest class.

Starting a new game, you will be given one city and one hero, the unique qualities of the city (buildings, military units) and the hero depend on the race you have chosen, it can be a druid, knight, magician or necromancer. Each race has its own set of capabilities, and completely unique: from the appearance of the city and buildings, to the available spells. At first, the map is hidden, all you need to do is to discover new territories, just be careful, there are squads of various types of troops scattered on the game map: these can be simple spearmen, or a horde of fire-breathing dragons of the 5th level. As a rule, squads protect passages, resources, chests with money and invaluable experience, as well as mills, mines with crystals with ore, sawmills or glades with many colors.
Do not rush to rejoice, not everything in the game is so simple, in order to be able to train new types with a unit, you need to build various structures within your city. For construction, you may need not only gold, which, by the way, is never enough (units are quite expensive, and improvements to buildings are not much cheaper). The most valuable currency in the game is gold, which can be exchanged for either wood or ore, crystals or multicolor, so make sure to accumulate enough gold first.
You can find it on the map, in chests, or build a city hall and improve it. Depending on what level of the town hall is built in the city, with each new turn your treasury will be replenished with gold by 1000, 3000 or 5000. The number of available military units is very limited, you can buy only a few units of each type in a squad (if you have built a corresponding building ), the units grow every 1 time per week, so it will take a long time to recruit a powerful squad. Fortunately, buildings are available on the map that make it possible to recruit new units, they differ in appearance and correspond to various categories of troops. Sometimes, if your squad is powerful enough, when attacking random squads, they will either flee the battlefield or want to join the ranks of your army.
The combat mode is worthy of all praise: the battlefield is divided into cells resembling a honeycomb. The units of each side are placed in a certain order on each side, the units differ in attack power, defense, morale and resistance to various types of spells. For example, if the morale of an individual unit is high enough, it can be awarded another attack for 1 cycle of each unit's turns.
The power of an individual army also depends on the characteristics of the hero himself who commands it. Heroes can differ in the level of attack, defense, knowledge. The more attack points your hero has, the more massive the blow of all your units will be (the attacking abilities of the hero and the individual unit are summed up).
The outcome of the battle will not always depend on the number of your units and their class, sometimes, a powerful army can be defeated with just a handful of simple units, this is if you know powerful spells, have a sufficient supply of magic points and apply them correctly, so do not always rely on the strength of your army, pay attention to improving the skills of your heroes.
The graphics, interface and music have been completely transferred from the desktop version of the game and this is great, everything is familiar,
there is no need to master new opportunities. I would like to emphasize how the guys from Ubisoft adapted the Heroes for touch control, it's just gorgeous. Controlling characters, moving around the map, performing the necessary actions using the touchscreen is much more convenient than the classic two-penny manipulator.
In the end, I would like to say that Heroes of Might and Magic in HD for iPad turned out just fine, the game allows you to remember your youth, return to the classics of the turn-based strategy genre and enjoy the familiar gameplay. The price in App Store for Heroes of Might and Magic in App Store is determined at the level of 599 rubles, not a little, but not a lot, definitely, the best money is, in my opinion, a turn-based strategy worth it.
