Recently, a free program for viewing maps Google offline was updated, i.e. without internet access. Iphone 4 and iPad with firmware 4.x.x are now supported. The program works with the caches of the native Google Maps application, and allows you to keep several city maps on your phone, switching between them as needed. For those who use google offline maps, this is a good helper. The existing application can be seen as a continuation of the iLm and mapoffline projects. Now it is an open source program that anyone can contribute to.

How to create and load maps in iPhone is described in detail in this manual. If you use only one card constantly, then there are no difficulties. But if you are traveling and want to use a map of another city, then you need to rewrite the map cache file in your phone using the file manager. This is where Offline maps comes to the rescue by providing an interface for switching between maps.

After installing Offline maps, open the application and import an existing map, giving it a name, let's say Moskva. After that you can upload a map of another city to iPhone, in my case Naro-Fominsk. Open Offline maps again and Import a map called Nara. Now you have two maps in the program, and when activated, the desired one is loaded into the phone's cache and becomes available for searching by gps. The map files themselves are located in the program folder and loaded into at your request. Thus, you can create several offline city maps and switch between them as needed. After downloading the new cache, you need to reboot the phone.
