This is perhaps the most popular book reading app on iPhone. Yes, yes, Stanza and not the much-hyped iBooks from Apple. Here are the data App Store for today: Stanza – 19,595 estimates; iBooks – 10488 ratings.
The difference between Stanza and iBooks is the ability to open almost any text format that only exists. You can read djvu, PDF, epub, fb2 and other e-book formats right away, without conversion. Due to its great functionality, this program for iPhone has received so many ratings.
Stanza's interface is pretty simple. There are several ways to download a book to the application.
Traditional – via iTunes, direct file upload. On the “Applications” tab, scroll to the bottom of the page, where you will see Stanza in a separate list. Select the book or text we need, add it to the program. Now run the application at iPhone the book will start downloading immediately. For small texts, recognition takes no more than one minute, but with large books you will have to wait. It may take a decent amount of time for the program to recognize a 1000-page DjVu book, but this is already a payment for functionality.
But direct download of books from sites will be more convenient. On the Downloads tab, click Change. The “Download books from URL” window will become available. If you enter the address where the book is stored, then the program will copy it to iPhone to its library.
Downloaded books are placed in the general directory, after which you can read them. The default theme is black text on a white background. But if desired, the display can be flexibly configured. The Stanza developers have added two dozen different themes and quite a few fonts. There are options for changing the font color and background image. But be careful – not all fonts support Cyrillic. You can switch from day to night reading mode.
To change the display brightness, just swipe up or down with your finger. A large scroll bar at the bottom is used to quickly turn pages. If the font is small, you can increase it, if it is large, you can make it smaller. Keyword search is a good addition. The result displays both the chapter and the section at once, which is quite convenient.
Of course Stanza loses to iBooks in design. But this is offset by the ability to read many book formats. If you need a simple application for reading a wide range of texts, then this program for iPhone is perfect.
However, with the last update, the program stopped supporting firmware earlier than the 5th one.
