Yandex.Disk – cloud wars

After the exit iOS 7, one important event was somehow lost. Of course, to send the release on June 10, when everyone was just waiting for the presentation Apple, is like not sending anything. And by the way, the products of this developer are distinguished by a consistently high level. So at once I can’t remember another Russian company, where the quality didn’t drop over time. Unfortunately, this is a feature of our mentality. But enough lyrics. So, the Yandex.Disk application has received the update.

And its essence lies not only in changing the interface icons. There is already a serious claim to rivalry with iCloud. For me this was the most convenient way to upload photos from iPhone to a computer before. You can read a description of this service here and here. Let's see what will please us this time …

Now the service allows you to automatically send all photos taken on iPhone directly to your folder on the Yandex server.
Previously, you had to do this with pens, marking the desired files each time. Now everything flows automatically.
A new folder has appeared in the disk section – “Camera”, where all photos from the device are copied.

You can configure the settings so that images are discarded only if connected to wi-fi or over 3G.

The application can run in the background. While watching the conference Apple on my phone, I took screenshots from the screen iPhone and after a few seconds I watched them in the Yandex Disk section. And since a program is installed on the working computer that shows the folders on the server as a connected external drive, the image can be immediately opened and edited. However, photographs can simply be opened to the public. There is a special option for this.

At the moment, this is the easiest and most understandable way to throw off photos from iPhone. Of course, Eye-Fi is an order of magnitude stronger. But I still haven't figured out all of its settings. Even turning on iCloud Photo Stream, the built-in service from Apple, takes more movement. And besides, it does not give direct access to files on the server.

For installing the application, Yandex provides an additional 32 Gb of disk space. True, only for six months, what will happen next is not clear. There are no tariffs yet. But in principle, for different promotions you can get 20 Gb for free. And this, in contrast to 5 Gb on iCloub, is already something.

The program works stably, but not without errors. The sorting of photos in the “Camera” folder is not always correct. If there are many files, then finding what you need is difficult. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.
